Final Reflection and Grade

Between 12/11 and 12/20, I will be holding final grade meetings with students individually to go over work and discuss your final grade.

In preparation for that meeting, you must send me a self-reflection for the course at least 24 hours before your appointment (sign up below to come). Your self-reflection should be approximately 500 words, and your goal is to articulate the grade you think reflects your work in this course.

Learning on your own is a skill that takes ongoing development. A very helpful practice is taking the time to reflect on what you have learned, whether it was expected or unexpected, and what you still have to work on. Please think critically and be honest, as it is the best way for us to improve as learners. Remember, this and our individual grade meeting are considered your final exam, and failure to submit it will affect my ability to record an accurate grade for you for the semester.

In your reflection, in addition to telling me what grade you think captures your work in the course, consider some of the following questions:

What have you learned about yourself as a speaker? As a listener? As a critical thinker and interpreter of sources? What worked or didn’t work for you in terms of this course overall? Were there exercises, readings, or other materials that were particularly helpful? Particularly awful? In terms of preparing for presentations, what do you find helps you? What might you take away from this course for the future? What do you feel you still could improve on or work towards? Were there things you took away that could apply to other areas of school or life?
Look back at the initial course learning outcomes on the class homepage – do you feel you’ve made progress toward these?

And, finally, what grade would you give yourself? What is your justification for this?

As with any writing, the more you can support your statements with examples, the stronger it will be.
