    Hi Emily! Loved your speech. Just one thing I would point out would be to make it less like you’re reading something to me. It’s easier to follow when it feels like the speaker is actually talking to me. Good job!

      I wish you had told this story more directly to us. You know the story, how would it be different if you made it your own by telling it to us? When you read a story instead of telling it, this is much harder to do, particularly as in this case you’re very buried in the text your reading. Remember that a narrative is a way to potentially grab your audience’s attention and get them engaged. It’s an opportunity to draw them in and make them feel something. When you tell a story about something good that happened to you to a friend, how do you share your excitement with them? Try to bring that energy to this kind of a speech.
